Poetry Slam set for Feb. 27 at Keg N' Cork
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji Public Library will host a poetry slam at 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Keg N’ Cork, 310 Beltrami Ave. NW.
Contestants should prepare three readings of original poetry in any style, each reading should be three minutes or less. Twelve first-round poets compete to make the seven places in round two; three poets advance to the final round.
Five judges, some selected from the audience, will rate the poets on a one to 10 scale, half on content and half on performance. The high and low scores are canceled to prevent any bias and the middle scores are tallied. The audience should be aware that the Poetry Slam may contain adult content during that portion of the evening.
Prize money for the top three poets will be $100, $75 and $50. Poets must sign up at the Bemidji Public Library by calling 751-3963; the competition is limited to 12 poets. Registration also is availalbe online at http://bemidji.evanced.info/signup. If there are still openings the night of the event, poets may sign up on the stand-by list, or show up at Keg N’ Cork, no later than 6:45p.m. to be added to the standby list. A drawing from the standby list will be used to fill in for no-shows from the list of 12.
