Ponemah man receives 41 months in prison for assault

MINNEAPOLIS – A 22-year-old Ponemah man was sentenced Wednesday for stabbing another man while on the Red Lake Indian Reservation.

Randall Dean Jones was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard Kyle to 41 months in federal prison for one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, according to a Department of Justice news release.

Jones, who was indicted March 20, pleaded guilty on May 17.

In his plea agreement, Jones admitted that on June 18, 2011, he called another man into the road and repeatedly stabbed him, according to the release. The victim was taken to a Fargo, N.D., hospital for treatment.

The case was the result of an investigation by the Red Lake Tribal Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
