Bemidji man pleads not guilty to sex with 11-year-old

BEMIDJI -- A Bemidji man accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl pleaded not guilty in Beltrami County Court this week.

Matthew August Loos, 28, faces a felony first-degree criminal sexual conduct charge for an alleged incident that took place in May 2013. According to court documents, Loos had sex with an 11-year-old girl while she was sleeping. In a statement given to law enforcement, Loos denied engaging in sexual contact with the girl.

If convicted, Loos could spend up to 30 years in prison and be charged a maximum $40,000 fine. Loos is scheduled for a pretrial hearing in Beltrami County Court on Nov. 13.
