Memorial Day events announced

The following is a list of some Memorial Day activities planned in the area to honor veterans.

BEMIDJI - Memorial ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday in Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji.

BECIDA - Community services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Fern Township Cemetery with a potluck to follow at Fern Town Hall. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share.

CASS LAKE - The Cass Lake American Legion Honor Guard will hold ceremonies at 11 a.m. Monday at Frohn Eastside Cemetery.

ISLAND LAKE - Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Island Lake Cemetery, located on Highway 89 in Alaska Township. A memorial will be dedicated in memory of Robert and Norma Andree. Veterans' names will be read by Don Andree, with a taps performance to follow by Ken Roff. For more information, call Pastor Derek Claypool at 751-4506.

LAPORTE - Honor ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at Evergreen Cemetery and St. Theodore Cemetery. An honor guard program will follow at Laporte School, with a short tribute at the public landing on Garfield Lake. Services will conclude at Laporte Cemetery. A free dinner for veterans and active service members will be offered after all services at Trinity Lutheran Church. The general public is welcome. LEECH LAKE - A memorial pow wow will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Veteran's Memorial Pow Wow Grounds near the Palace Casino in Cass Lake. For more information, call Paula Morris at 766-2742.

NEBISH TOWNSHIP - Services will be held at Nebish Township Cemetery located on County Road 32. Wendell Affield will read veterans' names, with a taps performance by Ken Roff to follow. For more information, call Pastor Derek Claypool at 751-4506.
