Congratulations to the junior high speech team for bringing home the gold March 20 at the conference championships in Pequot Lakes!

Along with the many winners of last night's tournament, the junior Drakes had four conference champions -- Julia Bogucki and Sasha Pfannenstein tied for the championship in Drama; Dimitrius Haro in Discussion and Michaela Holmgren in Storytelling.

Winning the Pequot Lakes Tournament championship was Julia Bogucki in Drama. Second place medalists were Julianna Fernandez in Poetry, Sasha Pfannenstein in Drama and Brittany Martin in Original Oratory. Third place medalists were Tanner Templin in Great Speeches, Emma Stelton in Prose, Dimitrius Haro in Discussion and Michaela Holmgren in Storytelling.

Honorable Mention awards went to Madison Stomberg, Ashley Lossing, Mackenzie Stenson, Adam Jacobi, Kelsie Murray, Tobey Haluptzok and Kari Sydow. Congratulations junior high speakers who continue their season into the varsity finale this week.

Drakes take second at home tournament

The Drakes Speech team took second out of 12 in a home tournament last Saturday with three tournament champions and many other winners!

Taking first place for the Drakes were Madison Stelton in Creative Expression; Matthew Jedlicka in Drama and Michaela Holmgren in Storytelling.

Second place medalists were: Madison Stomberg in Creative Expression; Dimitrius Haro in Discussion; Julia Bogucki in Drama; and Kristie Slindee in Storytelling.

Taking third place medals were: Cindy Veazey in Drama; Morgan Jung in Great Speeches; Lynn Masino in Informative; Maile Olson in Original Oratory; and Katie O'Rourke in Prose.

A fourth place medal was awarded to: Sasha Pfannenstein in Drama. Fifth place medalists were Ashley Lossing and Mackenzie Stenson in Duo; Madison Liapis in Informative; and Julianna Fernandez in Poetry.

Honorable Mention ribbons were awarded to Jay Cheney in Creative Expression; Doug Palmer and Anthony Page in Duo; Austin Page and Nathan Jablonski, also in Duo; Tyler Dobmeier in Great Speeches; Jenna Nestberg and Tobey Haluptzok, both in Humor; Brittany Martin in Original Oratory; Nolan Vorderbruggen in Poetry; and Emma Stelton in Prose.

The coaches would like to thank the entire team for not only performing so well but helping with set up, clean up and being good hosts to the other schools. It was a great success.

The Drakes headed off to the Section 7A championships March 30 where the top three speakers in each category will earn the honor of advancing to the presitgous Minnesota State High School League State Tournament in Chanhassen in two weeks.
