Northome School hires new personnel; approves leave request

The regular meeting of the Northome-Indus School Board was held in the ITV Studio's at the Northome and Indus School Feb. 8 with all members in attendance.

Following the approval of the agenda, the board added a request for unpaid leave to the Addendum before they approved the minutes, as presented, of the regular meeting of Jan. 11.

A district payment in the amount of $154,772.31 for accounts payable invoices and $8,190.01 for extra payroll for the month of January was approved before the following visitors were recognized Derek Gross, Linda Dreher, Becca Dreher, Karen Anderson, Brian Brown, Kim Brown, Jim Schneider, Peter Schneider, Paul van der Hagen, Gary Hultman, Wade Sutton, Sarah Wendt and Tom Van Damme.

Sutton and Hultman addressed the board regarding the recent research trip to Minneapolis. J. Schneider and P. Schneider provided information on the state Robotics tournament. Schneider also informed the board of Scott Pierson's participation in the state Brain Bee competition.

Recognition of Accomplishments were given to the following students

Indus Students of the Month for Grades K-3 - Bethany Sutton; grades 4-6 - Danni Erickson; grades 7-9 - Sammi Hervey and grades 10-12 - Austin Hanson.

Northome Academic and Exemplary Students of the month Academic senior high - Tanyssa Olafson and junior high - Michaela Williams. Exemplary senior high - Caleb Schneider and junior high - Kezia Rahier.

North Star Electric Cooperative donated $500 to the Indus ProStart Program.

First Lego Robotics received the following donations for state meet expenses - 4-H Leader Council, $300; Northome VFW, $500; People In Business Care, $300; Upper Red Lake Area Association, $400 and Koochiching and Clover 4-H, $250.

The board then...

o certified Bus Drivers Competencies

o assigned Administrative Secretary/Accounts Payable and Receivable or Business Manager as district employee authorized to handle the liquid asset fund

o and approved a Resolution Authorizing the Administrative Secretary/Accounts Payable and Receivable or Business Manager to make electronic transfers of District funds.

They also voted unanimously to approve Calendar A as the 2012-13 School Calendar.

A resolution directing the administration to make recommendations for reductions in programs was also approved.

A request was presented by Ms. Lewis for the Indus ProStart Invitational trip. The cost to the district would be transportation and a substitute teacher for up to two days.

Board members voted to approve hiring of Shawn Waldo for the Administrative Secretary Accounts Payable/Receivable position retroactive to Feb. 3

They also voted to approve the licensed staff 2011-2013 Collective Bargaining Agreement before voting to adopt Revised Policy 620.

Barb Hasbargen's request for up to three weeks of unpaid leave was approved unanimously.

Board chairman Brian Dreher discussed a recent meeting of the Northome Technology

Principals Brian Brown and Paul van der Hagen presented their Principal's reports, outlining recent activities in both schools.

Dr. Jerry Struss presented the Superintendent's report discussing recent activities with IASC, alternative programming, the Indus MPCA permit, superintendent's evaluation process and the ADSIS grant before the meeting was adjourned.

The next regular monthly board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. March 14 in the ITV studios at both Indus and the Northome School.
