Hockey Day is coming to Bemidji; 13th annual event set for winter 2019

Chaffin, Steffen, Lievsay, Gross named Students of the Month

September Students of the Month are Matt Steffen, Rachel Chaffin, Shadow Lievsay and Casey Gross.

The Northome High School staff sent its congratulations to Rachel Chaffin, Matt Steffen, Shadow Lievsay and Casey Gross for being selected September Students of the Month.

Senior Rachel Chaffin was selected as Senior High Academic Student of the Month. Chaffin is the daughter of Jeff and Kelly Chaffin, Gemmell.

Chaffin is active in Brain Bee, Science Club, Spanish Club, Student Council, band, choir and volleyball.

Nominees included senior Megan Halverson and junior Caleb Schneider.

Junior Matt Steffen was chosen as Senior High Exemplary Student of the Month. He is the son Richard and Marilyn Steffan of Squaw Lake.

Steffan's teachers noted that he is quick to help anyone who needs it, is always one to say good morning and reads books voraciously. He sets a good example for other students at school.

Exemplary nominees were seniors Danielle Lindner and Jeff Roosdett and juniors Aaron Chaffin and Tanyssa Olafson.

The Junior High Academic Student of the Month is eighth grader Shadow Lievsay. Lievsay is the daughter of Pete and Colleen Lievsay, Gemmell.

Lievsay keeps busy with volleyball, basketball, track, choir and youth group.

Also nominated were eighth graders Rachel Fahey and Daniel Jourdan

Eighth grader Casey Gross was selected as Junior High Exemplary Student of the Month. Gross is the daughter of Derick and Susan Gross, Northome.

Gross has also seen success in Robotics and most recently in 4-H when she earned a trip to the State Fair. She is also involved in Junior National Honor Society, band, choir, volleyball, basketball, golf and student council

Seventh graders Becky Maggert, Kezia Rahier and eighth grader Mirranda Carrigan and Lane Lindner were also nominated.
