Week of Sept. 27-30

TUESDAY, Sept. 27 - Pepperoni pizza, California medley vegetables, green beans, rosey applesauce, bread slice, milk variety.

WEDNESDAY, Sept. 28 - Chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, gravy, salad with ham, cheese, croutons, peaches, bread slice, milk variety.

THURSDAY, Sept. 29 - Hamburger patty, whole grain bun, baked beans, baked chips, mixed fruit, milk variety.

FRIDAY, Sept. 30 - Taco salad with beef taco meat, lettuce, cheese, salsa, sour cream, baked Doritos, corn, pears, bread slice, milk variety.

Elementary family fitness fun night

Families of elementary students as well as pre-school families are welcome to attend the Elementary Family Fitness Fun Night Oct. 7 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room, high school gym and commons area.

The cost is $1 per person and students must be accompanied by an adult. There is also no running around the school.

Participants will need to come in the big gym doors (#3). Concessions will be available.

Everyone is encouraged to come out and support the Elementary Fitness Fund, enjoy a fun evening with your family and friends and meet the new elementary gym teacher -- Mr. Gross!

Community Ed classes

Karate will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Sept. 27 from 6:30-8 p.m. The fee is $65.

Women's Emotional Well Being is set for Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school library.

Beginning Yoga starts Oct. 5 for six weeks from 6-7:15 p.m. The fee is $40.

Ceramic Pumpkin Canister will be held Oct. 4 and 11 from 6-8 p.m. The fee is $20.

Nutrition Tips for Seniors will be Oct. 5 at 6:30 p.m. The fee is $5.

Wednesday Night Volleyball begins Oct. 5 from 7-9 p.m. The fee is $3 per night.

Zumba will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays Oct. 7-Nov. 18 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The fee is $48.

Don't get left out of the yearbook or Mustang Express

The NHS yearbook staff sends out a reminder to the students who will be graduating in 2012 to submit a picture by Nov. 23.

Sending pictures via e-mail is the best. Be sure your pictures are wallet-sized, 300 resolution GIFFs or jpegs. Senior quotes and baby pictures will be due on the same date.

Jessie Jourdan wins local tractor pull competition

Congratulations to fifth grader Jessie Jourdan for her first place finish in the pedal tractor pull at the Northern District Fair in Little-Fork Sept. 4

She is the daughter of Doug and Kim Jourdan of Mizpah.

Kids ages 4-11 were eligible to compete.

A pedal tractor pull is an event in which a large pedal toy tractor hooked to a block or skid with a pile of weight on it is pulled. The child able to pull it the farthest wins the event.

Schneider boys do well in the Clover Cruise

Congratulations to the Schneider boys for the impressive finishes at the Littlefork Fair Sept. 4.

Caleb won the Clover Cruise 5K with a course record time of 19:47. Peter took second in the Clover Cruise 1K. Jim Schneider also broke the old 5K course record and came in third with 21:39.

All three encourage other runners to consider this race next summer in addition to Northome's own Sinkhole Scramble.

This event was sponsored by the North Council 4-H and was part of the North District Fair.

Play, learn and grow with your child

The Kelliher Early Childhood Family Education staff invite Kelliher area families with children ages birth to pre-kindergarten to attend "hands on" parent and child activities and a parent time to discuss the joys and concerns of parenting.

Learn more about your child and what you do every day to help your child learn and grow!

Sessions will begin Oct. 3 from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Early Childhood Classroom. Watch for future late afternoon sessions for working families.
