Northome School Board sets prices for new school year

Members of the Independent School District 363 met for their regular meeting July 13 in the ITV studios at the Indus and Northome School.

The meeting began following the Pledge of Allegiance by setting the bylaws as presented with the only change being the listing of Wells Fargo Investment as a official depository.

The board then voted to approve the addendum as presented with the approval of the College in High School Memorandum of Agreement with UMC.

The also voted to approve the minutes, as presented, of the June 8 regular meeting and approved the district payment of: $252,458.13 for accounts payable invoices and $39,365.23 for extra payroll, as presented, for the month of June. Motion carried unanimously.

Visitors attending included Derrick Gross, Linda Dreher and Dean of Students Bryan Brown.

The MSBA association dues and policy services renewal was approved as were the purchase of services agreement with Stellher Human Services for Northome Indus schools, the participation in the 2011 Angler and Hunter Recruitment and Retention Grant for the Northome School and the Health and Safety Attachment 10.

After a short discussion, the board voted to set the lunch prices for the 2011-2012 school year as follows: adult meals at $3.25, secondary meals at $1.30, elementary meals at $1.25 seconds at 50¢ and extra milks at 25¢.

They also approved substitute worker wages as follows: licensed teacher sub at $90 per day, classified staff sub at $8.75 per hour and sub bus drivers at $30 per trip.

Admission costs to athletic events for the Indus School were set at $2 for adults, $1 for students and for the Northome School, admission was set at $4 for adults, $2 for students in grades 7-12 and $1 for students in grades K-6. School year passes at the Northome School will be set at $40 per family, $20 for adults $20 and $16 for students. The family fall and winter passes were set at $20 each.

The board gave it's approval for the hiring of Chelsy Elhard as Northome/Kelliher varsity volleyball coach along with approving the requested rate increase of 5¢ per mile for the 2011-2012 school year from O-N Activities Inc. and to direct Supt. Jerry Struss to negotiate the rate for the final two years of the contract. The board, following discussion, voted to accept the property, casualty and auto insurance quotations from Continental Western and the workers' compensation quotation from State Farm Mutual through the Assured Protection, Inc. Agency, effective July 1 through June 30, 2012.

Supt. Struss was directed to offer a counter proposal to the letter submitted at this meeting by Mr. Hoffman, Industrial Technology teacher at Indus.

A discussion concerning a planning session was initiated and it was decided to have the board planning session be a part of the regular August board meeting agenda before voting to approve up to additional two weeks of work this fall for the Northome School secretary, if needed.

The Science curriculum notice of assignment for Mr. Schneider to update the Science Curriculum was approved. This will involve writing the Advanced Science class curriculum and matching the current curricula in grades 7-10 and Chemistry to the state standards. Compensation would be for 25 hours at $20 per hour. Any additional hours would need administrative approval.

Firm quotation from Sara Lee for Northome School. The board approved purchasing the product on an as needed basis from a food service vendor for the Indus School, since no bread quotes were received for the Indus School.

Gasoline quotation:

All quotes were unanimously approved.

Policy number 911 was then adopted before the board were updated on interviews for the 4/7th Indus art position. The interviews will be conducted and a recommendation will be presented at the August board meeting.

The board received information from Ms. Lewis regarding the Fresh Food Grant and the Fuel Up to Play 60 Grant.
