Northome School Board accepts donations; approves numerous agreements

The regular meeting of the School District #363 was held in the ITV studios at both Indus and Northome School June 8 with all school board member present.

First on the agenda was the approval of the agenda, the addendum as presented to the board and the minutes of the May 11 regular meeting as well as the June 2 special meeting. All were unanimously approved.

The board also voted to approve the district payment of $144,778.76 for accounts payable invoices and $46,055.84 for extra payroll, as presented, for the month of May.

Celeste Williams, Derrick Gross, Shannon Avenson, Dr. Jerry Struss, Bryan Brown and Lois Lewis were acknowledged as visitors to the meeting before the board accepted the following donations:

• Upper Red Lake Area Association for AED $335,

• Upper Red Lake Area Association for Easter egg hunt $300,

• Upper Red Lake Area Association to track team for uniforms $300,

• Upper Red Lake Area Association for annual grant $300,

• VFW for AED $300,

• Bremer Bank to Indus Scholarship Fund $100,

• Super One to Indus Scholarship Fund $250,

• Education Minnesota Local to Indus Scholarship Fund $300,

• Coca Cola to Indus Scholarship Fund $100,

• Voyageurs Communication to Indus Scholarship Fund $300,

• Border State Bank to Indus Scholarship Fund $500,

• Boise to Indus Scholarship Fund $200,

• Hasbargen Logging to Indus Scholarship Fund $100,

• Peterson Logging to Indus Scholarship Fund $100 and

• Erickson Timber to Indus Scholarship Fund $100.

They also voted to approve membership with the Minnesota Rural Education Association and approve the administrative memberships with MASA and MASSP.

The resignation of Bob Jaszczak as District Superintendent effective July 31 was then accepted.

Steve Kramer was hired as a summer maintenance worker in Indus.

The board voted to approve the Summer Technology Notice of Assignment at Northome with Maureen Moris.

The agreement between KOOTASCA Head Start and Northome School Readiness Program was approved as was the agreement between BRIC, Northome ECSE and Kootasca Community Action Head Start/Early Start programs and the 2011-12 PSEO agreement with Rainy River Community College.

The board then voted to approve the contract with Northome School Dean of Students Paul van der Hagen and the contract with Indus School Dean of Students Bryan Brown.

The annual Truth in Taxation meeting date was set for Dec. 14 at 7 p.m.

The bid from Dave Hausmann in the amount of $8,200 for the trailer house at Indus was then unanimously approved.

The board voted to approve contributing $600 for a portable defibrillator.

They also voted to approve the Intern Superintendent Agreement with Dr. Jerry Struss as presented before approving the second reading of Policy 911 and adopting policies 501, 710, 802, 805 and 806.

A unanimous voted was made to establish a Committed Fund Balance for Employee Severance Purposes (Retirement) and the Crisis Management Plan for the Northome School and Indus School before the meeting was adjourned.

The next regular monthly board meeting will be held July 13 at 7 p.m. in the ITV Studios at the Northome and Indus Schools.
