Gold coin valued at $1,400 found in Fargo Salvation Army kettle
FARGO - A gold coin valued at $1,400 was discovered in a Salvation Army kettle over the weekend.
Capt. Bill Mealy announced today that a 1976 South African Krugerrand was wrapped in a $20 bill and placed in the kettle at Scheels on Saturday night.
Mealy also announced that the Salvation Army is $18,000 behind in fundraising compared to this time last year.
The Salvation Army aims to raise $650,000 by 3 p.m. Friday.
Erv Inniger, honorary kettle chairman, urged people to volunteer to ring the bell.
