The schools in the conference have decided to play a shortened season by adding three Saturday games. This will be on a trial basis and will be reevaluated after the next two seasons.

The following are reasons for the change:

• Other schools are starting to run a shortened season.

• Junior high students would not miss as much class time.

• This would relieve the feeling of some that it is too long of a season for younger students.

There will be schedules available at a later date.

Please contact Activities Director Theresa Rabe at 835-5245 if you have any questions.

Interested in a local saddle club?

By Elizabeth Wickum

Northome Staff

Over the course of the past two summers the Northome community has been fortunate to have two horseback riding arenas developed. With increased attention to equestrian activities, several in the area have tossed about the idea of organizing a saddle club.

To assess the level of interest and examine the process of organizing and affiliating a club, a meeting will be held Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Northome City Hall meeting room.

Members from other area saddle clubs have been invited to attend this meeting to share information on their clubs and the events or activities they organize and sponsor. Don Lukenbill, of the Koochiching County fair board, will also be in attendance to discuss the new fairground arena.

All interested horsemen and women in Northome and the surrounding communities are encouraged to attend. Contact Libby Wickum at for more information.
