Candidate fair set for today at Red Lake

RED LAKE -- A candidate fair here today features most partisan and non-partisan candidates on the Beltrami County ballot.

Sponsored by the Red Lake Political Education Committee, the fair is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the new Red Lake Seven Clans Casino and Event Center south of Red Lake on state Highway 89.

Several DFL, Republican, and non-partisan candidates have confirmed attendance at the fair. All candidates for local and statewide office who would represent the Red Lake Indian Reservation were invited. Red Lake Nation (Reservation) alone has more than 2,900 registered voters.

The event is informal. It will begin with a breakfast buffet mixer and beverages for a free-will donation. Following the mixer, there will be time for greetings and a question and answer periods. Those with attending opponents will have additional time for questions and answers. Actual time allotted will be determined by the number of those committed to attend.

"We hope to draw both Indian and non-Indian participants from Senate Districts 2, 3 and 4, which includes Minnesota's three largest Indian reservations," said RLPEC Co-chairman Gary Fuller. "We expect local and tribal elected officials, political activists, and an interested electorate seeking information about candidates just prior to the Minnesota general election."
