NCRH earns patient safety award

North Country Regional Hospital has earned a Minnesota Hospital Association Patient Safety Excellence Award for its work on preventing pressure ulcers.

Patient safety is a top priority for Minnesota hospitals. Because of this, North Country Regional Hospital joined the SAFE from FALLS initiative, in which Minnesota teams are working collectively to implement an extensive list of recommended actions to prevent patients from falling. The recommended actions are compiled in the SAFE from FALLS Roadmap to a Comprehensive Falls Prevention Program.

The MHA Patient Safety Excellence Award is given to facilities that have achieved more than 90 percent of the recommended actions.

"Hospitals that receive these awards are to be commended - the bar is set very high," said MHA Patient Safety Vice President Tania Daniels. "Hospitals that qualify have achieved measurable and meaningful progress toward implementing best practices to drive down adverse health events."

"The SAFE from FALLS award that North Country Regional Hospital received from the Minnesota Hospital Association is a result of a commitment to patient safety throughout the organization from nurses, CNAs, physicians, and the hospital leadership," said Wendy Gullicksrud, patient safety director at North Country Health Services. "Since implementing the MHA's Best Practices for Falls we have seen a decrease in the number of falls at NCRH. We continue to work at improving our processes."

The MHA is a trade group representing Minnesota hospitals and health systems.
