State Patrol identifies two killed in crash near Glyndon

GLYNDON, Minn. - The Minnesota State Patrol has identified two people who died in a two-vehicle crash east of here about 5 p.m. Sunday.

Robert L. Schroeder, 64, of Pelican Rapids, and John E. Fuhrken, 76, of Hawley, died in the broadside crash at the intersection of Highway 10 and Highway 9 near Buffalo River Race Park, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

Lt. Chuck Backes said a passenger car with three people was headed south on Highway 9 when it failed to yield for a pickup that was westbound on Highway 10.

The pickup broadsided the car, and occupants of the car needed to be extricated, Backes said.

The driver of the car, Robert Schroeder, died at Sanford Hospital in Fargo. The back-seat passenger, Fuhrken, died at the scene.

Schroeder's wife, Linda Schroeder, 63, of Pelican Rapids, was taken to Sanford Hospital for injuries that were not life threatening.

The occupants of the pickup, David Hamm, 52, and Jerri Hamm, 50, both of Backus, Minn., were treated and released from Innovis Health in Fargo, the State Patrol said.

LifeFlight responded to the accident, but no one was airlifted, Backes said.

The crashed caused significant traffic delays on Highway 10.
