Bemidji City Council to discuss cost of BREC risers
A budgeting error for the Bemidji Regional Event Center means the city will likely pay much more than it thought for a riser system and platforms.
Andy Long, the regional vice president for VenuWorks, told the Bemidji City Council in a letter that the components - all part of the furniture, fixtures and equipment list - were under budgeted in his FF&E budget.
The Bemidji City Council is set to discuss the matter during its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
Long reported that he under budgeted the amount required for the east end riser system (student sections), platforms that meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, in-fill platforms and spotlight platforms.
The total budgeted amount for those needs was $75,000, but Long has since learned they could cost between $190,000 and $350,000, he wrote.
The good news is that the overall FF&E budget is under budget.
Long reported that the actual costs for FF&E items are more than $317,000 under budgeted amounts.
"Overall, we are anticipating continuing to be under on the overall FF&E budget," Long wrote. "As such, I am requesting that we are able to shift budgeted dollars saved in other areas to the riser/platform budget item."
