Alice Griffith

Alice Abigail Griffith, 99, of Northome, died June 21, 2010 at the Northome Healthcare Center in Northome.

Funeral services were held at June 25 at Hope Lutheran Church in Northome with the Rev. Roy Johnson officiating. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery in Northome under the direction of Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck.

Pallbearers were Ed, Russell, Andy and Rachel Fisher, Dan Griffith, Danetta Ducharme and all her other grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were Evelyn Fisher, Shirley Latterell, Lorraine Anderson, Louise Curb and Marlys Hanson.

She was born Feb. 2, 1911 in Franklin to Jacob and Lena (Pauly) Storzbach. She attended school in Brainerd until the sixth grade when the family moved to Northome. She graduated from Northome High School in 1929.

She married Bill Griffith Nov. 27, 1931 in Bridgie. They lived on the farm until 1957 when they moved into Northome. She flipped hamburgers at the Pine Grove Dance Hall while Bill was the deputy sheriff. She also cooked at Bender's Camp on Island Lake for a number of years. She was the Northome city treasurer for many years.

She loved to travel out east and to Portugal. She loved making chocolate chip cookies and playing cards with her grandchildren. She enjoyed people coming to the house for coffee and goodies. She also loved to read. She had told her children that they could travel as many places right in their own home by reading a good book.

For the past three years, she had lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Northome before going into the Northome HealthCare Center in 2006.

She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church of Northome, its Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School there.

She is survived by two sons, Raymond (Irene) Griffith of Paramus, N.J. and Jim Griffith of International Falls; a daughter, Dolly (Gary) Fisher, of Northome; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Lena Storzbach; her husband, Bill Griffith; a son, Lloyd Griffith; four brothers, Dodie, Jim, Howard and Frank and two sisters, Myrtle Schiel and Ruth "Curly" Beggs.
