Philip Granger

Philip "Sonny" Granger, 73, of Bemidji, died June 6, 2010 at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji.

Mass of Christian Burial was held June 11 at St. John's Catholic Church in Nebish with Fr. Luis Buitron officiating. Burial was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Nebish. Arrangements were with Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji.

Paulbearers were Brian Granger, Victor Yerbich, Tony Granger, Brenden Granger and Shon Granger and Cedric Gamble.

Honorary paulbearers were Bert Gamble, Bobby Thompson, Joel Vogel, Ronnie Current, Harold Smith, Jr. and Aaron Smith.

He was born Sept. 25, 1936 to Leonard and Antonia (Yerbich) Granger in Chicago, IL. He and his family moved to Nebish when he was a young boy. He attended country school near Nebish. As a young man, he moved to Chicago and became a trucker for MacKay's Trucking.

He met and married Barbara Parker May 30, 1960 in Chicago. They moved back to Nebish and purchased the Nebish Store. They sold the store and he continued trucking until he became ill. He was a lifelong member of St. John's Catholic Church in Nebish. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and tinkering with cars and tractors.

He is survived by sons, Eugene (Kathy) Granger of Bemidji, Tony (Millie) Granger of Cass Lake and Brian (Tammy) Granger of Nebish; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; five step-grandchildren; sister, Cecilia (Paul) Weidenborner of Northome and a brother, Pierre (Lucille) Granger of Bemidji.

He was preceded by his parents and a sister, Veronica Gamble.
