Diocese of Superior, Wis., suspends priest on allegations of sexual misconduct

SUPERIOR, Wis. (AP) -- The Diocese of Superior has suspended a retired Catholic priest from church activities while police investigate allegations of sexual misconduct.

Douglas County District Attorney Dan Blank says an attorney for the diocese contacted him with "vague allegations" and he turned the matter over to Superior police.

Police Capt. Chad La Lor says detectives are investigating recent allegations against the priest of "inappropriate behavior of a sexual nature" involving a 19-year-old. Although La Lor declined to comment on the gender, diocese spokesman Richard Lyons said it involved a young man.

Lyons says church policies require an automatic suspension.
