Author Don Houseman speaks to barn group

Blackduck author Don Houseman

Former Blackduck art teacher and local artist Don Houseman recently spoke to The Friends of Minnesota Barns Association at their annual meeting March 13.

The meeting was held at the Oliver H. Kelley Historical Farm south of Elk River. Presenting a talk based upon his writings from his children's story How Harvey and His Friends Saved the Barn, Houseman shared farm stories and jokes about growing up in rural Southern Minnesota.

The Friends of Minnesota Barns is a non-profit organization which promotes the preservation of our historical barns in Minnesota. During his presentation the artist/author took the opportunity to bring out his newest art print of the characters from his book. Houseman concluded his speech with the announcement of the soon to be published sequel to his first story, Harvey and His Friends Great Fishing Adventure.

The new art print is presently available at the Northlander Gift Shop and Blackduck Gift and Floral. The sequel book is due out the first part of May and will be carried by both stores in Blackduck and Bookworld in Bemidji and Walker.

Blackduck Floral will host D. L. Houseman April 2 from 10 a.m.-noon with his new art print available for purchase and an Easter special price on his first book. Orders for first edition copies of Harvey and His Friends Great Fishing Adventure can be placed at that time.
