Bemidji Fire Department: Chief search down to four

Four men will be interviewed next week as the city of Bemidji seeks its new fire chief.

The new chief will replace current Fire Chief Dick Sathers, who is retiring Dec. 31 after 37 years with the department. He will remain a paid on-call firefighter.

Twenty-eight people submitted applications for the position earlier this fall, according to City Manager John Chattin.

Eleven of them responded to a written questionnaire and four finalists were selected to be interviewed this coming Friday, Dec. 11, Chattin said.

The four finalists are:

- Jay Bohan of Brodhead, Wis.

- David Hoefer of Grand Forks, N.D.

- Daniel Klein of Cologne, Minn.

- James Mueller of Eagan, Minn.

The interviews will be conducted by Chattin; Bryan Bushey, deputy fire chief with the Duluth (Minn.) Fire Department, who began his career with the Bemidji Fire Department; and a yet-to-be-chosen member of the Rural Fire Association.
