Blackduck fifth grade students from Ms. Carlson's class helped students from Mrs. McKean's class with a Thanksgiving art project that will be delivered to the Good Samaritan Center in Blackduck, to be used to decorate for the Thanksgiving holiday.1 / 4
Mrs. Cleveland's first grade class at Blackduck Elementary had a visitor last week as they celebrated Community Helper Week. Blackduck Police Officer John Wilkinson stopped in to visit with the class.2 / 4
November was Child Safety and Protection month and the students and staff at the Bi-Cap Caring Hands Preschool Head Start had a visitor in the form of Blackduck Police Officer John Wilkinson. The goals the children got out of this lesson were simple -- For children to know and feel the police are here to help them. To know the police don't hurt people. Not to be scared of the police. Oct. 26, eight members of the Blackduck High School choir traveled to Duluth for honor choir. They learned four songs and joined over 200 students from around Minnesota to sing in a massive choir. Rehearsals were held throughout the day and a concert was performed at 4 p.m. along with the Duluth choirs. Scholarships available

Washington Crossing Foundation: Seniors who are history buffs, enjoy politics, or are interested in government or military service. Visit: Deadline: Jan. 15.

Farm Credit Service Scholarship: Seniors who are from an actively farming or ranching family OR are planning to pursue an agricultural degree. Deadline March 1.

KFC Colonel's Scholarship: Seniors with a GPA of 2.75 or higher and are pursuing a bachelors degree. Apply online at Deadline: Feb. 10.

AXA Achievement Scholarship: Seniors who are active in their community, have led a project that benefits others, and overcome personal challenges. Apply online at Deadline Dec. 15.

US Bank Internet Scholarship: Seniors attending an accredited two or four-year college next fall. Apply online at Deadline Feb. 28.

St. Thomas Science, Mathematics and Engineering Scholarships: Seniors applying to St. Thomas. Deadline Dec. 1.

America Legion Auxiliary Department of Minnesota Scholarship: Seniors who are sons, daughters, grandsons, or granddaughters of a veteran. Deadline March 15.

Wednesday Night Volleyball is at 7 p.m. and the fee is $3 per night.

Aerobics will be held Monday-Wednesday from 6:30-7:30 pm. in the school gym. Bring a towel.

Open gym is Sundays from 3-5 p.m. The cost is $1 per person or $5 per family.

Old Timers basketball tournament to be held

Blackduck Community Education Basketball program will be hosting an Old Timers Basketball Jan. 2.

The requirements are simple -- the captain of the team must be a Blackduck High School alumni, 18 years or older and each team must have two females on the court at a time.

Team registration is $55 per team. To register a team, contact Blackduck Community Education Coordinator Sharon Tuey at 835-5241.

Volunteers are also needed to be referees for the day. Contact Tuey if you are interested.
