State park campgrounds booking up fast for summer in Minnesota
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Campsites and cabins at Minnesota state parks are booking up fast for this summer.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says anyone thinking about a weekend getaway should not wait much longer to reserve a spot.
Forrest Boe, deputy director of the Parks and Trails Division, says camper cabins and campsites with electrical hookups may be hard to come by in certain parks for the Memorial Day weekend.
Families who just want to pitch a tent will still find plenty of sites available, but Boe says reservations for Friday and Saturday nights at the most popular parks won't last long.
State parks accept reservations up to a year in advance, and make about a third of campsites available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
To make camping or lodging reservations, call 1-866-85PARKS or 1-866-857-2757 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily, or visit www.stayatmnparks.com
