Post Office reopens following gas leak in Bemidji

Crews with Minnesota Energy Resources responded Monday to a gas leak outside the Bemidji Post Office on Fifth Street Northwest.

The gas leak had been temporarily repaired by 4 p.m., although Minnesota Energy remained on the scene Monday afternoon, according to press releases from the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office. All streets have been reopened. The Post Office was to reopen at 4:30 p.m.

The Post Office whad been closed earlier today and Fifth Street was closed to traffic between Irvine Avenue Northwest and Mississippi Avenue Northwest in downtown Bemidji as work continued, a release said. No homes were evacuated.

The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Management and Minnesota Energy had a command post on scene, but is now being dismantled the release said. The Bemidji Police Department Bemidji Citizen Patrol, Beltrami County Sheriff's Mounted Posse and other volunteers manned closed intersections during the incident.
