Booth named Featured Author of the Week

Word Weavers, an online group for authors, poets and others interested in literature, has selected Bemidji author and playwright Roy C. Booth as the Featured Author of the Week.

"I'm excited about it," Booth said.

Word Weavers members meet to share ideas, post news and tidbits, and promote different literary works, usually in the fields of science fiction, horror or mystery. The online group, accessible at, offers a blog, book reviews and trading card program. Information also is available on joining Word Weavers and how to send excerpts, quotes and jokes.

Booth, 42, is a published author and award-wining playwright. He also is a comedian, journalist, essayist; game designer and a scriptwriter/doctor for film, radio and TV.

Booth said that representatives from Word Weavers contact him about a month looking for information and examples of his work.

"Then, they picked me," he said.

Booth has had 39 plays published - soon to be 40 as "Beanie and the Bamboozling Book Machine" (co-written with Bob May) is set to be released later this month.

Word Weavers is also embarking into publishing as it prepares to release an anthology of literary works. Booth's short story, "The Book Release Party," will be included in the anthology.

He lives in Bemidji and Hibbing with his wife, Cynthia, and two children. He owns Roy's Comics and Games store in downtown Bemidji.
