Formal Dress Exchange set for Saturday

Women and girls in search of a formal dress for a prom, a wedding or another special occasion will have an opportunity to browse dresses for sale by area residents Saturday at the Formal Dress Exchange in Bemidji.

The Bemidji High School Dance Team Parent Boosters will hold the fund-raiser from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Family Life Center at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Bemidji, located along U.S. Highway 2 West. The center is located on the backside of the church.

"It offers quality dresses at reasonable prices," said Connie McDanel, a member of the parent boosters. "Plus, you get to support high school athletes."

She said the varsity and junior varsity dance teams will use the money they raise Saturday - 15 percent of the sales -- to attend training camps this summer at St. Cloud Tech High School and Brainerd Just for Kix, as well as hire a personal trainer to work with the coaches and team members sometime during the summer.

People have been dropping off formal dresses at L P Stitchery by Laurie in Bemidji for about a month, said Pam Holtman, a member of the parent boosters. She said the dress owners set their own price for the dresses.

Dresses will be accepted through 5 p.m. Friday at L P Stitchery by Laurie, located at 1510 Bemidji Ave. N., and continue to be accepted Saturday at the dress exchange. Dresses can be dropped off Saturday starting at 9 a.m. The parent boosters recommend that dresses be cleaned and small repairs be made beforehand.

On-site fittings will be available at the dress exchange. Also, a lunch of wild rice soup and bread will be available for purchase during the dress exchange with proceeds going to the dance teams. People can also purchase a family-size container of soup to take home.
