Melvin LaCroix, 90

Melvin "Shorty" LaCroix, age 90, of Bemidji, MN died Tuesday June 6, 2006 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 10, 2006 at St. Philips Catholic Church, Bemidji, with Father Vincent Miller officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before the service on Saturday at the Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Bemidji, under the direction of the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home.

Honorary bearers will be all of Shorty's nieces and nephews. Casket bearers will be Daniel LaCroix, Shayna LaCroix, Chuck Swenson, Ben Lehmann, Kenny Haugen, BreAnne Haugen, Paul "Bud" Holt, and Phillip "Pat" LaCroix.

Melvin H. LaCroix was born September 15, 1915 in Bemidji, MN to Phillip and Mary (Mitchell) LaCroix. He grew up and attended school in Bemidji. He married Corey Opsal November 18, 1939 in Bemidji. They lived in Bemidji where he was co-owner in LaCroix Brothers Logging and Sawmill. After selling the sawmill he worked at Dickinson Lumber until he retired in 1980. He very much enjoyed watching the wildlife in his back yard and took great interest in all the many changes he had seen throughout his lifetime.

Melvin is survived by his son, Dennis (Hazel) LaCroix, Bemidji; daughter Jeanne LaCroix (Tom Wrolstad), Bemidji; grandchildren: Daniel LaCroix, Shayna LaCroix, Deb (Tim) Kelm and Dale Wilson; great grandchildren Trevor and Dallis Kelm.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Mary LaCroix; wife, Corey; five brothers: Raymond, William, Clarence, Lloyd and Floyd; three sisters: Orella "Rell" Holt, Elsie "Sis" Bahr, and Evelyn "Tootsie" Allen, and four infant siblings.
