LeRoy Alvis Garrigan Sr., 71, of Red Lake, died on Saturday, June 3, 2006, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

There are no services scheduled at this time. The Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home of Bemidji assisted the family with arrangements.

He was born on March 12, 1935, to John and Anna (Lussier) Garrigan Sr., in Red Lake. He grew up and attended school in Red Lake before serving in the U.S. Navy. After his military service, he returned to Red Lake. In 1959, he married Sharon Roberts in Bagley. He went to machinist school in Staples, Minn., for two years, moved to Oakland, Calif., then returned to Red Lake. He then moved to Chisholm, Minn., to work in the mines. Upon returning to Red Lake, he worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, then for Red Lake School District No. 38, providing swimming pool maintenance before being named head custodian.

He enjoyed traveling, carving and hunting. He especially liked to watch his grandsons play basketball. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughters, Sherry Garrigan, Debbie Garrigan, Laurie Garrigan and Rhonda Garrigan, all of Red Lake; son, LeRoy Garrigan Jr. of Red Lake; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother, James (Sharon) Garrigan of Bemidji; sisters, Margaret (Glen) Faulkner Sr. of Oklahoma City, Okla., Gary Lautrell of Brandon, Ore., Ethel Smith of Redby, Percilla Garrigan of Minneapolis, Minn., and Betty Carter of Anoka, Minn. He raised four grandchildren, Shane Garrigan, Kyle Garrigan, Rhishauna Garrigan and Ryan Black Cloud.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter; a grandson; and three brothers, Arnold Garrigan, John Garrigan Jr. and Don Garrigan.
