Infant injured, run over by vehicle

A 10-month-old boy is still in the hospital after being run over by a vehicle last week, according to a news release from the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office.

At 1:47 p.m. on April 26, the sheriff's office, Akeley First Response and Walker ambulance responded to a 911 call at a residence on the 30000 block of Hubbard County Road 23 in Akeley Township.

Upon arrival, responders and deputies learned that Kevin Rollins had been working in the yard with his 10-month-old and 5-year-old children present. Further investigation revealed that Rollins had handed the 10-month-old to the 5-year-old girl to hold while he backed up his vehicle.

While checking his rearview mirror, Rollins saw the 5-year-old was no longer holding the infant. He stopped the car and found the infant was up against the right rear tire of his vehicle.

The 10-month-old was airlifted to MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, N.D., according to the news release. Sheriff Gary Mills said the infant's condition is unknown.

The incident remains under investigation.
