Funding for government lapses as short-term spending bill stalls in the Senate

Two men charged with drug theft

Two employees of the Public Health Service Hospital in Red Lake have been charged in U..S. District Court with stealing controlled substances from the hospital pharmacy.

According to the criminal complaint, Cody LeBeau Spears, also known as Cody LeBeau Bartlett, was charged with obtaining "by misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, deception or subterfuge" about 840 doses of Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen between Jan. 23 and March 22. Spears had been employed at the hospital since May 2000.

Ronald Lee Thunder was charged with obtaining by the same fraud about 1,562 doses of the same controlled substance between Jan. 23 and Feb. 15. He had been employed by the hospital since March 2005.

Both men were released on $25,000 bond.

According to the criminal complaint, the men were observed on a security camera removing the drugs from a robotic prescription dispensing system that interfaces with the pharmacy computer system to fill, deliver and label prescriptions.
