Dayton to look into oil safety

ST. PAUL — Gov. Mark Dayton said Tuesday he will ask for a report about whether state regulators have done enough to protect Minnesotans from oil spills.

In a wide-ranging session with reporters, he said in response to a Forum News Service question: “I can’t say what deficiencies there are. ... We want to maximize safety and protection”

When the news service asked if he had checked on how Minnesota deals with oil pipeline, rail and truck safety in light of a North Dakota 20,600-barrel oil pipeline spill late last month, he said that he had not.

“That’s a good idea,” he quickly added. “I will do so.”
