Taste of Dorset festival set

DORSET -- The 26th Annual Taste of Dorset Festival is set 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 4 in downtown Dorset, stretching from the church on the south end of town up to Main Street.

Live music, games for children, horse-drawn wagon rides, face painting, minnow races, henna tattoos, quilt raffle, silent auction and author signings are planned.

A "Mayor Parade" is set for 12:30 p.m.

The drawing will be held for Dorset's world-famous mayor race, hosted by the current 4-year-old mayor, Robert Tufts, at 2 p.m.

Sobriety run scheduled

RED LAKE -- The Annual Four-Day Run of Sobriety and Health will begin 10 a.m. Wednesday at Red Lake Chemical Health Programs, 15797 Main Ave., in Red Lake, and finish at the Masha-ka-wisen powwow grounds at Fond du Lac on Aug. 3.

Runners will come down Highway 89, cross Highway 2, go through the city of Bemidji on Paul Bunyan Drive and head east toward Leech Lake on the old Cass Lake highway or Roosevelt Road.

All runners are encouraged and welcome to join the run at any point for any amount of time.

Children younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Meals will be provided, but bring a tent and sleeping bag.

Wine and beer tasting at Ruttger's

BEMIDJI -- The United Way of Bemidji Area's 12th Annual Wine & Beer Tasting Gala will be held 5:30-8 p.m. Aug. 8 at Ruttger's Birchmont Lodge, 7598 Bemidji Road NE.

Tickets are $15 and available at the door or in advance at Ruttger's Beehive Liquors or the United Way office. Must be 21 to attend.

A special selection of wines and beers have been chosen to sample courtesy of Beehive Liquors, Bemidji Brewing Co., Bernick's, Big North Distributing, Forestedge Winery, Leech Lake Brewing Company, Johnson Brothers Liquors, McKinnon Company, Phillips Wine & Spirits, and Southern Wine & Spirits. Light hors d'oeuvres will be provided by Lueken's Village Foods.

All proceeds will support the 2013 United Way of Bemidji Area campaign for the community.
