BCAC presents First Friday Events

BEMIDJI — Highlights for the Bemidji Community Arts Center’s First Friday this week include:

Artist and traditional canoe builder Maxwell Kelsey, followed by the Northwoods Folk Collective, at Rail River Folk School; photographer Irv Strom, followed by an All-American menu at Wild Hare Bistro and Coffeehouse; photographer Cal Rice and his images from Cuba at the Bemidji Public Library; artists of Studio 10 at Brigid’s Pub; showcase artists Daren Hanson (mixed media) and Barb Ellingson (stained glass) along with featured artist Marion Caroline Reil (watercolor) at Gallery North, and photographers Ashley Houle and Joyce Klevens at Glazed and Amused.

Public readings set at Bemidji State

BEMIDJI — Public readings at the Northwoods Writers Conference Reading Series will be hosted 7:30 p.m. July 14-18 in the lower Hobson Memorial Union at Bemidji State.

The July 17 the reading will start at 6:30 with two readers that night.

The readings are open to the public and free of charge.

Watercolor painting class scheduled

BEMIDJI — Marion Reil will be teaching a watercolor painting class noon to 4 p.m. July 20 at Gallery North, 502 3rd St. NW in Bemidji.

Prior experience is not required. Students will paint and mat a 16 x 20 watercolor painting and all materials will be provided.

The fee is $45 and registration is at Gallery North.

‘Charlie Brown’ opera performances set

BEMIDJI — Northern Light Opera Co. presents “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” 7:30 p.m. July 12, 13, 18 and 19 and at 3 p.m. July 14 and 20 at Armory Square, Highway 71 and 2nd St., downtown Park Rapids.

Photography exhibit at Neilson Place set

BEMIDJI — Aynsley Kluchnik and Abby Szarkowski’s travels to Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, North Dakota, Minnesota, Canada, India, New Zealand and National Parks throughout the United States will have a photography exhibit on July 12  at Neilson Place. A meet and greet with the artists will be from 3- 4 p.m. in the lobby. Refreshments will be served. Neilson Place is located on the Sanford WoodsEdge campus, 1000 Anne Street NW.  

Art in the Park set July 13 at Bagley

BAGLEY — On July 13, the city of Bagley will host Art in the Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. More than 40 vendors are lined up with hand-crafted art products. Sonny Johnson, singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Bemidji, will be performing from noon until 2:30 p.m. Activities for children and food from nonprofit organizations will be available.

Tickets on sale for ‘Carousel’ production

BEMIDJI — Northern Light Opera Co. will present Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Carousel” 7:30 p.m. July 26 and 27, Aug. 1 and 2, and 3 p.m. July 28 and Aug. 3 at the Park Rapids Area High School Auditorium, 401 Huntsinger Ave.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students and available at Beagle Books, Coborn’s or online at
