Guntzel, Schuellers honored volunteers

The Bemidji Pioneer, Paul Bunyan Broadcasting, Ken K. Thompson and the United Way recognize "Someone Special Volunteers" who have made significant contributions to the community.

Bemidji Community Education's Summmer Kids program has nominated Katie Guntzel as a Someone Special volunteer.

Guntzel volunteered with Bemidji Community Education's SummerKids program in the summer of 2011. She worked nearly every day for about six hours per day, which is the same schedule the paid staff worked.

Guntzel assisted in the Yellow Room, which includes children who have completed kindergarten or K-1. Some of the activities Guntzel did included helping supervise the children with daily activities such as crafts, art projects, and other activities within the classroom; hand-washing; assisting with meals and snacks; and playing in the pool, gym, computer lab and outdoors.

SummerKids is a summer childcare program for students who will be entering grades 1-8.

Northwoods Caregivers has nominated Bill and Emily Schueller as Someone Special volunteers.

The Schuellers provide volunteer transportation to many clients of Northwoods Caregivers in the Blackduck and Kelliher areas. They have donated 385 hours of service and have driven 8,797 miles in the past year. Bill and Emily Schueller are well-known and appreciated by those they serve.

Emily also serves on the Northwoods Caregivers board of directors and is very actively involved in its mission, which is "Connecting, enriching, and empowering the lives of Northwoods individuals and families.

Northwoods Caregivers provides services such as respite, caregiver coaching, homemaking, home modification, shopping assistance, and transportation to seniors and those with disabilities in the Bemidji trade area.
