Kelliher/Waskish Big Bog Festival is set for July 8-10

The Ironman jump house was a popular attraction for youngsters at the Kelliher/Waskish Big Bog Festival.

It's that time of year again -- time to get out in the sunshine and have some fun! Where? At the Kelliher/Waskish Big Bog Festival.

The fun kicks off July 8 in the North Beltrami Heritage Center in Kelliher, which is open from 1-4 p. m. At 5:30 p.m., there will be a potluck picnic at Homestead Park in Waskish followed by the mud run at 6:30 p.m. Anyone wishing to participate in the mud run can call Scott Waldo at 647-8911.

There will be a teen dance in the Kelliher School parking lot from 7-11 p.m. and an adult dance at the Kelliher Liquor Store beginning at 9 p.m. The band, Ghost, will be playing.

The softball tournament will begin festival activities July 9 at the Kelliher School ballfields at 8:30 a.m. To register a team, call Rick Thayer at 647-8449.

There will be an archery shoot at 9 a.m. north of Kelliher City Hall as well as a "3 on 3" girl's basketball tournament. To participate in the archery shoot, call Frank Hand at 647-8134. To register for the girls basketball tournament, call Justin Lundin at 647-9039.

The food booths and flea market at the Old School Center will be open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. as will the North Beltrami Heritage Center.

The children's tractor pull will begin at 10 a.m. west of the Old School Center. Registration is at 9:30 a.m.

A caricature artist will be on hand to "capture your portrait" from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. From 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. and children's games and activities south and west of the Old School.

The parade begins at 1 p.m. and participants are asked to line up in front of Forestry office noon. Anyone wishing to participate in the parade can call Mary Koisti at 647-8548 or Lori Rennemo at 647-8589.

The Beer Garden will be open on the south side of Old School Center from 1:30-8:00 p.m.

There will be a Cattle Ranch Sort to be held on the west of Kelliher at Jeff and Dianna Thurlow residence. Register at 12:30 p.m. To register for the Cattle Sort, call the Thurlows at 647-8557.

Trike and bike races will begin at 2 p.m. at Cornerstone after parade. Also at 2 p.m., is the firemen's water fight on the east of Kelliher Auditorium.

Bingo will be held at 2:30 p.m. under the "Big Top" south of Old School gym.

At 3 p.m., lawnmower races begin on the east end of Fourth Street. Sign up is at 2:30 p.m. To register, call Jay Waldo at 647-8733.

Brats and Dogs will be sold from 4-5 p.m. on the south side of Old School and a 5 p.m., the Seventies Trivia Game Show will begin at the Old School. There will be a cash prize to top team! To participate, call Tari Nelson at 647-8480 or Shelli Krueth at 647-8470.

Beginning at 9 p.m. at the Kelliher Liquor Store, festival-goers can dance the night away outside the Kelliher Liquor Store to the band, 8th Hour.

To wrap things up July 10, it's back to Waskish where you can attend the ecumenical church service July 10 at Homestead Park in Waskish.

The wild rice pancake breakfast will begin at 10 a.m. also at Homestead Park .

Once again, the caricature artist will be available from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

From 10 a.m.-2 p.m., softball will be played at Homestead Park along with a Pop Can Fishing Clinic for Kids from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The kiddie parade begins at 11:30 p.m. at Homestead Park.

At noon and 1 p.m., there will be a tour of the fish hatchery with Dawn Jensen.

Kiddie games will be held at 2 p.m. at Homestead Park and the fun ends at 2:30 with free Bingo at the park.

Anyone who is interested in the Big Bog Self Guided Tour can take it at anytime. Begin the tour at Ludlow Island Bog Walk! Remember to visit the new Big Bog Interpretive Center and Fire Tower.
