Shrine clinic results tallied

The final figures of the Shrine Evaluation Clinic held Sept. 10 in Bemidji are in.

The clinic was part of the Shrine weekend, which included activities including a Shrine parade in downtown Bemidji and the Bemidji State University Shrine Bowl football game. All events were well attended.

The evaluation clinic had 18 patient appointments. Each patient was evaluated by members of a medical team, including professionals from the Shrine Hospital and physicians from Indian Health Services and North Country Regional Hospital.

The emphasis of the clinic was on bone and joint problems, such as scoliosis and limb problems, but other childhood afflictions like cleft palate were also considered.

Sixteen of the 18 children seen at the clinic were accepted as patients of the Twin Cities unit of the Shrine Hospital System. Others were deferred until their conditions became more definitive.

When accepted, Shrine Hospital patients receive free medical care until the age of 18 and transportation to and from the hospital for the patient and the family.
