The Old Schoolhouse

Preserving history throughout the generations.
The Old Schoolhouse is a three story brick school building built in 1917 and used by the school district until 1972. The building was purchased in 1973 by Herb and Lois Dale of Bemidji. It has been repaired and redecorated by the family to preserve its usefulness. All profits from the shops are used for the preservation of the building.


THE DESK DRAWER - GIFT SHOPS

The works of hundreds of area artists and craftsmen fill six "classrooms," cloakhalls and hallways of the Old Schoolhouse. There are numerous last minute gift ideas for that special person on your list. Some examples include hand crafted gifts, original art work, hand crafted pottery, winter accesories, art supplies and gift certificates. Other items for sale include:
  • Ornaments and decorations
  • Baby items
  • Quilts, afghans, pillows
  • Northwoods reading material
  • Handcrafted wood items
  • Country and folk art decorator items
  • Birdhouses, feeders, lawn ornaments

THE ART STUDIO - GALLERY

The Art Studio has an extensive variety of picture frames, canvases, stretcher bars, brushes, pens, pencils, pastels, paints, inks, airbrush, woodburning and drafting equipment, matboard, foam core, unfinished wood and resin items to paint, sketchbooks, journals, wood and linoleum carving tools, a large variety of plain and fancy paper in sheets and pads. For sale are original paintings in oil, acrylic, watercolor and photographs.

DIANE'S DANCE STUDIO

The studio occupies the larger portion of the 3rd floor. Since 1966 Diane (Dale) Halverson has offered classes for ages 3 through adult.

  • Liturgical Dance

A non-competitive dance experience.
