Bemidji youth places second at Young Artist competition PressPass

Sadie Hamrin, 9, of Bemidji, achieved second place at the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artist competition on Jan. 29 in Duluth. Hamrin, the youngest member of the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra, played “Violin Concerto 23” by Giovanni Battista Viotti. The competition is for high school students or younger and is open to all orchestral instruments, including piano. Hamrin is instructed by Michelle Laliberte of Bemidji.

BSU students raise funds for Ours to Serve House of Hospitality From left, Bemidji State University students Casper Stephens, Travis Schultz and Matt Byrne, all active brothers in the BSU Omega Phi fraternity, spent 72 hours living outside on the BSU campus to raise money for Ours to Serve House of Hospitality, located at 416 Irvine Ave. N.W. in Bemidji. Businesses from the community and BSU organizations donated materials, such as cardboard boxes, wooden crates, sleeping bags and a burn barrel.
