Sunrise Rotary distributes dictionaries
Bemidji Sunrise Rotarian Roger Muth helps J.W. Smith Elementary third-grader Tasha Martell find a word Tuesday in her new dictionary. The Bemidji Sunrise Rotary and Bemidji High School Interact clubs are distributing free dictionaries this week to 400 third-graders. Tuesday they were at J.W. Smith and Central schools. Franken hears from school leaders 
When U.S. Sen. Al Franken toured Bemidji’s J.W. Smith Elementary School on Friday, he was impressed when he saw third-graders reading to kindergarteners in the school auditorium. Their cheerful faces made him grin from ear-to-ear.

The Bemidji High School Show Choirs had a stellar weekend at Waconia Star Power Competition last weekend. Shown above is La Voce Ballo, which received grand champion in Class A. Emilie Bowman, front left, was selected as top female vocalist. Vocalmotive received the People’s Choice trophy, Best Choreography and Grand Champion. The next competition will be Feb. 27 at Totino-Grace High School in Fridley, Minn.
