Anglers continue to enjoy ice fishing season on area lakes
It has been another good week of ice fishing in the Bemidji area. Unseasonably warm temperatures and good ice conditions are allowing anglers to spread out and go just about anywhere they want on the lakes, as long as there isn’t an ice heave or current area in their way.

New Plateaus: College life in China
I kept hearing that we Americans are supposed to be threatened by the countless graduates being pumped out of the universities in China. Well, I figured I ought to check things out for myself. I was just interested in seeing what a Chinese college looked like. I had met a couple local gals who talked up their campus something special, so I agreed to pay them a visit. I turned back the clock a few years and grabbed my book bag to mingle with the coeds.

Lack of winter should help pheasants
By Julie Buntjer Worthing Daily Globe WORTHINGTON, Minn. - Ask any hunter who walked the grassed waterways and shelterbelts about how successful they were in flushing pheasants last fall and it won’t take long to realize it was less than a stellar season. With back-to-back rough winters in 2010 and 2011, followed by a cold and wet spring in 2011, pheasant counts were down considerably - more than 80 percent, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Area Wildlife Supervisor Wendy Krueger.
