I have been following the news about what may or may not happen with the Pamida property now that the store is closing. I think this is a great opportunity for the Bemidji community to fully acknowledge that there are at least 22 Dakota people buried there, under the pavement, and honor them.

Alzheimer's Walk in Bemidji
Kris Kolstad of Merifield, Minn., was visiting her son and nephew at hockey camp and heard about Tuesday night’s Alzheimer’s Walk. A quick trip to Pamida for T-shirts and markers and they all had matching shirts for the event. On the front it read “4 Grandma” in honor of Kolstad’s mother, Louise. They were part of the 30-plus participants in the walk. From left are Kris, Kristina Kolstad, 9, Karrina Myhre, 14, Luke Kolstad, 13, and Zac Myhre, 11. Pioneer Photo/Monte Draper
