Weather — Beware: Derecho season is upon us
Ahhh, the Fourth of July weekend. The “experts” are forecasting temperatures around average for this time of year – highs in the upper 70s, lows in the upper 50s, providing relief from Thursday’s heat advisory and its accompanying hot and humid conditions. Weather: Hotter than Phoenix? How odd
The joke was on you if you shuttered up the lake cabin last weekend and headed south for the winter. High temperatures in Bemidji this week reached into the 80s while low temperatures remained in the 50s – nearly 20 degrees above the averages for this time of year. High temperatures in the north woods equaled or exceeded temperatures in Palm Springs, Phoenix, Albuquerque, Dallas, New Orleans and Jacksonville.

No doubt about it; we can trust God
A recent Pioneer editorial chided our Congress for affirming the national motto (In God We Trust) and questioned whether or not thinking people should “trust God.” The reasoning was pretty straightforward: since trouble and disaster (like tornados) strike the “good and bad” alike, who is to say there is a God of justice or love? And given what we see in the world we see around us, how could we ever trust him?
