A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at Cease Family Funeral Home, in Blackduck with the Rev. Dan Heath officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the Sunland Memorial Park Cemetery, in Sun City, Ariz.
He was born May 18, 1927, to Travis and Mabel DeVault in Rhodes, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army as a food inspector during World War II. He was discharged in 1946 and farmed and worked at Armstrong Tire until 1969, when he bought Tomahawk Lodge on Blackduck Lake. He spent much of his life in Blackduck building two cabins at Tomahawk. He also built several homes in and around the area. He built a new building for his snowmobile business, which is where the Head Start building is now. He also built the Dairy Queen. He was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Blackduck, until 1990, when he retired and moved to Phoenix.
He is survived by his son, Johnnie and Cheri DeVault of Blackduck; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; sisters, Rhoda Walker of Vinton, Iowa, Goldie Eldridge of Rhodes, Edna Langham of Des Moines, Iowa and a sister-in-law.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Freda; daughter, Susan Wood and a son-in-law.
