Doris Rachel (Owen) Erickson, 94, of Bemidji, died Friday, March 19, 2010, at her home.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at the Evangelical Free Church in Bemidji with the Rev. Fred Martin officiating. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday, March 26, at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji and one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji.

She was born Feb. 7, 1916, to Virgil Monroe and Carrie J. Owen at their home in Hines. She attended Hines Consolidated school through her first year of high school. She then attended North High in Minneapolis her junior year and graduated from Blackduck High School in 1933. She attended Northern Business College in Bemidji for two years. She married Carl J. Erickson on May 19, 1935, at the First Lutheran Parsonage in Bemidji. She worked short periods for the Social Security Administration, State of Minnesota, DNR and the Beltrami County Courthouse in the Planning and Zoning Department. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church and taught classes for young children. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was an avid reader, scrabble player and gardener.

She is survived by her children, Darryl (Jan) Erickson, Myrneth (Hartzel) Halverson, Sharon (Dale) Halverson, Duane (Carol) Erickson, Lyle (Kathy) Erickson, Carlys (Tom) Larson, Elroy (Becki) Erickson, Mary and the late Jim Thorne, Julie Erickson, Dale Erickson, Alan (Pam) Erickson, Bonnie Erickson and the late Burnell (Pat) Erickson; 40 grandchildren; 87 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Burnell; two grandsons; a granddaughter; brothers, Rodney, Lloyd, Clifford, Lester, Elmer and Robert; sisters, Millicent Evans, Vera Legried, Louise Knox and two infant sisters.

Erickson Family....."grandma" Erickson was a very special lady and gave our family warm memories as she cared for our "Saundra" in her pre-school years. She sure knew how to use those little marshmallows, eh, Julie:-) PamelaO
