Henrietta Marie (Fillipi) Knutson, 95, of Gully, Minn., died Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook, Minn.
Henrietta Marie (Fillipi) Knutson, 95, of Gully, Minn., died Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook, Minn.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, at the Lund Lutheran Church in Gully with the Rev. Michael Sletto officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial of cremated remains will be at the Lund Lutheran Cemetery in Gully. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted with the arrangements.
She was born April 23, 1914, to Henry and Mary (Piker) Fillipi. The family moved to Tabor, Minn., before she was 2 years old. She attended Boxville School in Marshall County., near Warren, Minn., a two room, two teacher school, and achieved an eighth grade education. Growing up, she helped care for the younger Fillipi children, often baking bread for the family. She was too small to reach the table and would set the bread pan on a chair, to work it. As a young woman she worked for several people doing housework and elder care. On Feb. 11, 1936, she married Henry Knutson. They began their married life living and working on a farm until their son, Lloyd, was born. Later, they moved to a farm near Clearbrook, Minn., on the shores of Falk Lake. In 1945, they moved to Trail, Minn. While living in Trail, she kept a cow and supplemented their income by selling milk to some in the village. In 1947, they purchased the farm in Gully, Township, Polk County, where they lived for many years engaged in farming and bulldozing. Her husband died in 2005. She loved gardening, Raising flowers, embroidering and cooking. She was a member of the Lund Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid, in Gully. She entered the Good Samaritan Center in 2007.
She is survived by her son, Lloyd (Janet) Knutson of Gully; two grandsons; five great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Mamie and Emily; and brothers, Henry, Bob, Raymond and Ernest.
