Joan Mary Hoffman, 79, of Blackduck, formerly of Debs, died Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society in Blackduck.

Joan Mary Hoffman, 79, of Blackduck, formerly of Debs, died Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society in Blackduck.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at Cease Family Funeral Home in Blackduck with the Rev. Ray Klug officiating. Burial of cremains will be held at a later date in the Roosevelt Township Cemetery in Debs.

The pallbearers will be Garry LaRoche, Christopher LaRoche, Pat Cahill, Roy Ewen, Robert Williams and Tony Baker.

Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Brown, John Baracani, Michael Hoffman, Ashly Brown, Ronee Baracani and Gena Rees.

She was born on Feb. 11, 1931, to Eddie and Ruvella (Leslin) Magnan in St. Paul. She was united in marriage to Melvin “Shorty” Hoffman on Oct. 28, 1950, in Goodridge, Minn. In 1991, she retired from John’s Super Valu Food Stores after many years of service. In her retirement, she enjoyed reading, gardening, quilting, playing cards and taking long walks in the woods.

She is survived by her daughters, Vickie (Garry) LaRoche of Orion, Ill. and Kristi Hoffman of Blackduck; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin, in 1975; a son, Mitch; brothers, Jerry, Gene, LeRoy and George; a sister, Juanita Cahill; a great-grandson and a special friend, John Dunn.
