Harry Adam Kramer Jr.

Harry Adam Kramer Jr., 91, of Lake George, N.Y., and Naples, Fla., formerly of Bemidji, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at the Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre in Queensbury, N.Y.

Harry Adam Kramer Jr., 91, of Lake George, N.Y., and Naples, Fla., formerly of Bemidji, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at the Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre in Queensbury, N.Y.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. No visitation is scheduled. Stafford Funeral Home of Lake George is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Jan. 6, 1919, to Harry A. Kramer Sr. and Della (Van Antwerp) Kramer in Lake George. He graduated from Lake George Union High School in 1938. In November 1939, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was sent to Hickam Field in Hawaii. He was eating breakfast Dec. 7, 1941, when the mess hall took a direct hit from Japanese bombers, which killed 35 of the men eating there. He survived the attack. During his military career he was stationed throughout the South Pacific. He achieved the rank of master sergeant and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Pacific Service Medal and the American Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star. He was discharged May 28, 1945. In 1949, he enlisted in the Air Force Reserves and served until 1970. He married Margaret Burns and moved to Bemidji, where he was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. He worked as a bookkeeper. After his wife died, he retired and moved to Naples in 1996. He was a member of the VFW and the U.S. Air Force 11th Bomb Group.

He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Keys of Kirkoven, Minn., three grandsons; a nephew; a niece; several great-grandchildren and special friend, Grace MacDonald of Lake George.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Harry Kramer III and brothers, Roger Kramer and William Kramer.

Donations in his memory can be sent to St. James Episcopal Church, Montcalm Street, Lake George, N.Y. 12845, for the new furnace.
