Willard Byron Potter, 83, of Middletown, RI, died Jan. 12, 2010 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.

Willard Byron Potter, 83, of Middletown, RI, died Jan. 12, 2010 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.

Funeral services were Jan. 16, 2010, in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Newport. Burial was at Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.

He was born in Blackduck May 11, 1926, to Byron and Irma (Klug) Potter. He married Daisy Constantopoulos. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict, retiring as QMC after 24 years. He then went to work at the Naval War College for 21 years as a draftsman.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, the Fleet Reserve, VFW, the Operation Deep Freeze and the Middletown Senior Center.

He was an avid bowler, reader and loved to travel. He also greatly enjoyed baseball, especially being a New York Yankees fan.

He is survived by his wife; a son Ret. Lt. Col. Bruce W. Potter (Clancy) of Trappe, PA; a daughter, Carol S. Jones of Oakview, CA; two grandchildren and a sister, Iris A. Gerfin of Cle Elum, WA..

He was preceeded in death by two sisters, Jeanette and Marbel.
