Joseph Anthony Malone, 77, of Bemidji, died Friday, March 5, 2010, at the North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji.
Joseph Anthony Malone, 77, of Bemidji, died Friday, March 5, 2010, at the North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Bemidji with Rev. Anthony Fernando officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial of cremated remains will at a later date at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Bemidji under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.
Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers, Martin, Thomas, Paul and Eugene Malone.
He was born on Sept. 8, 1932, Patrick and Magdalena (Tabery) Malone in Leaf River Township, Minn. He graduated from Sebeka High School, and then worked at the family farm. He was drafted into the U.S. Army Feb. 24, 1954, and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged with the rank of private first class on Jan. 18, 1956. He then worked for Bell Telephone. He married Leojean Jewett Sept.r 26, 1959, at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Bemidji. He graduated with honors form Bemidji State University and earned degrees in elementary education. He worked in elementary education with the Bemidji School District from 1974 until his retirement in 1996. He loved the weather and was a passionate amateur meteorologist. He especially loved spending time with his family. He was a member of St Philip’s Catholic Church in Bemidji.
He is survived by his wife of Bemidji; son Joseph (Susan) Malone of St. Michael, Minn.; daughter Denice Malone of St. Paul, Minn.; three grandchildren; brothers, Martin Malone of Wadena, Thomas (Evelyn) Malone of Wadena, Paul (Vera) Malone of Sebeka and Eugene (Eileen) Malone of Sebeka; sisters, Eileen Johnson of Wasilla, Alaska, Loraine (Joseph) Goeden of Wadena, Patricia (Lee) Kicker of Wadena and Joan (Steve) Vokurka of Littleton, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by by his parents; and brothers John, Maurice and Richard Malone.
