Mildred “Millie” D. Shefland, 90, of Bemidji, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Walker.
Mildred “Millie” D. Shefland, 90, of Bemidji, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Walker.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 8, at the Assembly of God Missionary Fellowship Church in Bemidji with Jerry Vaughn officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the spring at the Malvik Cemetery in Bemidji under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Ranae Seykora, Kari Shefland, Courtney Schaefer, Annie Shefland and Joe Shefland.
She was born May 9, 1919, to Abraham and Turina (Eggar) Peterson in Larain, Wis. She attended Augsburg College and graduated from the Swedish College Nursing Hospital in 1942. She married Orrin Shefland Jan. 5, 1943. She worked part- or fulltime until 1978 in Minneapolis, Bemidji, Louisiana and Florida. She worked for Public Health Nursing and Residential Real Estate in Minneapolis. She enjoyed walking in the woods, picking wild flowers and berries, growing flowers and vegetables, bird watching, fishing and listening to music.
She is survived by her children, Dave Shefland of Walker, Ray (Celeste) Shefland of Bemidji and Carol (Mike) Hohn of Maple Grove, Minn., five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1996; brothers, Carl and Olaf Peterson; sister Ruby Peterson; and a grandson.
